MCT Center for the Performing Arts
Directed by Michael McGill
Book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Co-conceived by Eric Idle
Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, Music by Stephen Flaherty
Based on the works of Dr. Seuss. Produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International

"Oh, the Thinks you can think, when you think about Seuss!" This fantastic, magic, musical adventure brings to life everyone's favorite Dr. Seuss characters: Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all the Whos in Whoville. Fun for all ages, Seussical combines the wit and wisdom of the beloved children's author with the rhythms of Latin, swing, gospel, and pop in a joyful, finger-snapping, to-tapping musical score. Bring the whole family—more than once!

Uncle Jim's Straight Scoop:  Rediscover the irresistible characters, the magical language, and the thoughtful humor that has warmed our hearts and tickled our funny bones for decades. A one-of-a-kind family masterpiece.

Jesus Christ Superstar

Oct. 24-26, 29-Nov. 2, Nov. 5-9, 2008
VIP Gala Night Performance, Oct. 23
MCT Center for the Performing Arts

Directed by Jim Caron
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by Tim Rice
Produced by special arrangement with Tams-witmark Music Library, Inc.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s vibrant rock opera is back by popular demand! Missoula audiences will be inspired by this passionate musical retelling of Jesus’ last days on earth. Alternately joyful, searing, and heartrending, Jesus Christ Superstar offers such well-loved songs as “Everything’s Alright” and “I Don’t Know How to Love Him.” Don’t miss this Tony Award-winning classic––one of the most powerful and inspirational pieces of musical theatre ever written.

Uncle Jim's Straight Scoop: Is Jesus Christ Superstar absolutely true to the scripture in content and style? No. But the content may be closer to gospel than you expect. And in my view, the style, along with the music and the spectacle, can help today’s young people relate to the New Testament.

NUNCRACKERS-The Nunsense Christmas Musical

Dec. 5-7, 10-14, 2008
VIP Gala Night Performance, Dec. 4
MCT Center for the Performing Arts

Directed by Michael McGill
Book, music and lyrics by Dan Goggin
Produced by special arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library

Everyone’s favorite nuns take up where they left off in Nunsense! As the show begins, the school’s annual Christmas program (a variety show featuring scenes from The Nutcracker) is about to be taped for public access TV. Chaos ensues as plans fall apart, so the nuns improvise with a Christmas giveaway, impromptu musical numbers, and tales of Reverend Mother’s years in the circus. Touching ballads, upbeat gospel songs, and a singalong of traditional carols make this a heartwarming holiday experience!

Uncle Jim's Straight Scoop: Fun, fun, fun! Light, terrific holiday entertainment that pokes a little respectful, kind-hearted fun at those wonderful ladies in black. Great stuff for the whole family. And no, you don’t have to be Catholic to get it!

Bang the Drum Slowly

Jan. 23-25, Jan 28-Feb1, 2009
VIP Gala Night Performance, Jan. 2
MCT Center for the Performing Arts

Directed by Jim Caron
By Eric Simonson
From the novel by Mark Harris
Produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

This poignant, gritty, but often funny tale follows the not-so-fictional New York Mammoths in their all-consuming effort to reach the 1951 World Series—when major league baseball was still a sport. The drama of the pennant race is overshadowed by the star pitcher’s journey from a decent joe to an unselfish, compassionate human being. The heart of the show sparkles like a diamond.

Uncle Jim's Straight Scoop: Despite a little colorful language, the play smacks an emotional homerun for mature kids and the rest of the family. Be sure to bring a hanky—for Dad.

Bye Bye Birdie

Mar. 13-15, 18-22, 2009
VIP Gala Night Performance, March 12
MCT Center for the Performing Arts

Directed by Jim Caron
Book by Michael Stewart
Music by Charles Strouse
Lyrics by Lee Adams
Originally produced by Edward Padula
Produced by special arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library/font>

America’s rock ’n’ roll king drafted! Not cool! Ponytails, poodle skirts, white bucks, buckets of Brylcreem, and neighborhood cutie Kim MacAfee wearing REAL EYE MAKEUP! Really cool! What’s not to love? A Broadway hit and winner of four Tony Awards, Bye Bye Birdie offers riotous humor and captivating songs, including “Put on a Happy Face” and “A Lot of Livin’ to Do.”

Uncle Jim's Straight Scoop: Absolutely appropriate for young and old. Put the family in the old station wagon and hurry on down.

Oliver!

May 1-3, 6-10, 2009
VIP Gala Night Performance, April 30
MCT Center for the Performing Arts

Directed by Michael McGill
Music, lyrics and book by Lionel Bart
Produced for the Broadway stage by David Merric and Donald Albery

Start with a classic Dickens novel. Stir in a lush musical score and add unforgettable characters who will steal your heart. Season with a cast full of kids—lots and lots of kids! The result is the uplifting, Tony Award-winning musical story of Oliver Twist—a young orphan who innocently falls in with a group of youthful pickpockets and their mentor, Fagin. Don’t miss such unforgettable songs as “Consider Yourself,” “As Long as He Needs Me,” and “Where is Love?”

Uncle Jim's Straight Scoop: A sure-fire recipe for a delicious family evening. But be sure the little ones are ready for dark characters and even some violence—it’s Dickens, after all!
