Production Classes FAQs:
What will my child do at Production Classes?
Production Classes are a rehearsal process that culminates in performances of an original Missoula Children’s Theatre musical or a Broadway musical written specifically for students. Your child will participate in a group audition, be cast in a role, rehearse, and perform in the show. The audition and casting take place the first week of class.
Some children will receive roles that require memorization outside of time spent at MCT; these children will receive a script that may need to be returned to MCT. Lines should be memorized as soon as possible!
Can you tell me a little more about the classes?
We offer various Production Classes throughout the year for different age groups. These skill-building classes are held from 4-6PM (4:30-6:30PM for the Junior class) every Tuesday and Thursday and culminate in at least two performances. The week prior to for the Junior class and of the performances for all classes is production week. Students will be expected to rehearse each day that week.
How do I register my child for classes?

After I submit payment to MCT, is my child enrolled in class?
Not yet! After submitting your online payment, you will receive a follow-up email to complete the online registration form. Please fill this out promptly, so that we have your student’s information (emergency contact, allergies, etc.)
My child can no longer attend. What is your refund policy?
Full refunds are given if a cancellation is made before the first day of class.
Cancellations made before the second day of class will be refunded in the form of an MCT gift card in the amount of the tuition minus $75.
No refunds will be given after the second day of classes.
What is a World Premiere?
Some of our Production Class shows are World Premieres. A World Premiere is an original adaptation of a children’s story or fairytale written specifically for our Red Truck Tour. This original play has never been rehearsed or performed before. The members of the World Premiere class will be the first cast in the world to rehearse and perform in the show!
How old should my child be to participate in the Production Classes?
Production Classes are open to children currently in K-12. We have found that young children are more successful in our projects if they have attended or are currently attending Kindergarten.
What should my child wear to class?
MCT Production Classes are quite active, and we want your child to be as comfortable and safe as possible. Your child must wear closed-toe, soft-soled shoes that are comfortable to move around in—such as tennis shoes. No sandals, Crocs, or slides, please! In colder or snowy weather, when children may be wearing snow boots, please send along a pair of shoes for your child to wear in the building. For rehearsal clothes: in warmer weather, shorts and T-shirts are great; in colder weather, jeans or other comfortable pants are ideal.
Should I send a snack?
We will not have a snack break during class, but your child is welcome to eat something before class begins. Students will not have access to a microwave oven OR to the vending machines.
On show day, we will take one meal break between shows if they are scheduled back to back. Please send a non-messy dinner and water. (Water is best because it’s the easiest to clean up!) Cast members will not be allowed to leave the theatre to get food.
When should I drop off my child?
We will begin class promptly at the scheduled start time. Please do not bring your child to MCT any earlier than 15 minutes prior to class start as there will not be supervision.
How should I drop off my child?
Safety is very important to us, and MCT’s parking lot can be quite busy. Drop off for class is from 3:45-4PM at the lobby doors on the east side of the building, just off the parking lot. For the first day of class, all students need to be accompanied to the drop off spot by a parent/guardian so we can confirm contact information. After the first class, your student can escort themselves to the door. For everyone’s safety, please do not stop in MCT’s curved driveway to pick up your child.
Please indicate on your student’s registration form if your student will be driving themselves, taking public transportation, walking, or riding a bike. If your student drives themselves, they may utilize our parking lot. If your student will be riding their bike, there are bike racks located by our lobby doors.
When and how should I pick up my child?
MCT classes are finished at 6PM (6:30PM for the Junior class). While we make every effort to end on time, we apologize if we run over a bit! Parents/Guardians must park their vehicles and check in with the MCT staff member at the designated pick-up location to verbally “sign out” their student. For everyone’s safety, please do not stop in MCT’s curved driveway to pick up your child. The children will stay in the lobby until they visually see the adult they are expecting to pick them up.
Please understand this is a precaution to make sure everyone gets home safely. MCT staff will stay until every child has been picked up. All students must be picked up by 6:15PM to avoid the possibility of an additional charge for after-hours care.
May I watch the classes?
Production classes are currently closed to parents/guardians to reduce distractions.
What if my child has to miss class?
To have effective rehearsals and great shows, class attendance is important. We really need to know if your child will miss rehearsal. If you know in advance that your child will need to miss class, please tell us as soon as possible. We will try to make every effort to accommodate you if possible. If your child is sick and unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. Missing rehearsals may affect the role your child receives/performs.
What if my child has a disability or medical consideration?
The Missoula Children’s Theatre is proud of its inclusive casting policies; all children are welcome. If you feel your child’s situation is something we need to be aware of or special accommodations need to be made, please email us. There is also a space to write down any medical considerations on the registration form.
When will my child be performing in the show?
Show times for Productions Classes are posted on our website. We will send an email a couple of weeks prior to the performance that describes the production week and performance day(s) in detail.
Why do you need my phone number?
The guardian information on the registration form is there for us to be able to contact you in case of an emergency or any other situation in which we would need to talk to you. Please provide the contact information for guardians who are local.
Are there scholarships available?
Yes, there are a limited number of partial scholarships available. Application for a scholarship implies willingness of the responsible adult recipient to give volunteer hours to the Missoula Children’s Theatre by ushering for this production. Receipt of an application does not guarantee a scholarship.
You will be notified of your eligibility before class begins, as soon as all applications have been processed. Upon acceptance of a scholarship, you will be scheduled to complete your volunteer hours. (Please note: ushering may need to be scheduled on the day your child is not performing.) Failure to complete this trade obligation will disqualify the applicant for future scholarships.
To be considered, the scholarship application form must be returned no later than one week prior to the first day of day camp. Application forms are available upon request by emailing Eric Prim.
When will I see my child on show day? Can I go backstage?
Cast members may briefly visit with family and friends in the lobby between the first and second performances. However, all cast members must return to the green room 30 minutes prior to the second performance in order to eat and focus for the final show. Only Cast, Crew and MCT Staff are permitted backstage.
Will there be a DVD of the show I can purchase?
MCT does not record the shows for purchase and, due to licensing rules, video of the performance can not be recorded on any personal devices.
May I take pictures during the show?
MCT does not allow pictures to be taken during the show. This policy is not only for the comfort of those around you (the flash/noise of a camera and the light from a cell phone can be very distracting), but especially for the safety of the young performers.
When can I get tickets to the show?
Tickets are on sale through our Box Office and can be purchased online, by phone (406) 728-7529, or in person Monday-Friday from 12–5PM.
