Community Series Audition Breakdowns

Planning to audition for an upcoming show?

The Missoula Children’s Theatre is committed to providing an enjoyable, entertaining and respectful environment for everyone who wishes to participate, at auditions and performances—onstage, behind the scenes and in the audience. We strive for artistic excellence when casting the shows with actors who are best suited to perform the available roles. The listing of available ages and/or other specifications are determined by the source material, which MCT is contractually required to follow.

What to Expect:

We welcome you no matter your level of experience, whether you’ve done many shows or just want to try something new!

The MCT audition process involves reading scenes from the script and singing and dance/movement (for musicals).

Upon arrival at the theatre, you will be asked to fill out a form with your contact information, known schedule conflicts, and any previous experience you may have. Auditioners will be called into a room in groups to sing, read, dance in front of the production’s artistic team, which typically includes the Director, Music Director and if applicable, Choreographer.

After each audition group, callback lists will be posted to indicate if you are being asked to return later that day for a more intensive audition that may focus on specific characters or different scenes/pieces of music from the show. Just because you didn’t get a callback doesn’t mean you didn’t get a part!

Cast lists for each Community Series production are emailed out to all who auditioned on the following Wednesday at 5pm for those cast to accept their roles. The cast list is also posted outside the main Lobby entrance on that day.

Unfortunately we typically can’t cast everyone who auditions, but if you aren’t cast in one show, we hope you’ll return for the next!
