IRA Giving
Donate DonateIf you’re age 70½ or older and have a traditional IRA, there’s a powerful way you can support the Missoula Children’s Theatre — and it may offer you meaningful tax benefits at the same time.
It’s called a Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD, and it allows you to make a donation directly from your IRA to a qualified nonprofit like MCT. If you’re subject to Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) — which begin at age 73 — a QCD can satisfy all or part of that annual requirement without increasing your taxable income.
Keep reading below to learn more about how
to make this kind of tax-friendly donation.

Why consider a QCD?
- Tax savings – The distribution is excluded from your taxable income.
- No need to itemize – You can still take advantage even if you don’t itemize deductions.
- Helps fulfill your RMD – If you must withdraw funds, why not use them to support a cause you love?
Key Details
- You must be 70½ or older to make a QCD.
- The donation must come directly from your IRA custodian to the Missoula Children’s Theatre.
- You can give up to $105,000 in 2025, and that amount won’t count toward your income.
- The gift must be completed by December 31 to count for the current tax year.
