This month we feature Cheri and Steve Thompson, a couple dedicated to showing their love for each other and MCT by volunteering together on and behind the stage every Wednesday to help bring our shows to life!
We sure love them, and what better month to celebrate
that than February?
How long have you been together?
We met in 1965 at Camp Paxson where Steve was a senior at the University of Montana, and I was a freshman. The U held a camp at Paxson for freshman to acquaint them with the processes of the campus, resources, how to register, RA’s etc. Steve was the senior in charge.
How did you first become involved volunteering for MCT?
Our first experience with MCT was with the Tour, putting on a play in Seeley Lake. From there, we had an exchange student from Copenhagen, Denmark that fell in love with theatre and returned after her graduation in Denmark to Tour for MCT. From there we were friends with Hal Fraser, had season tickets for quite a few years, worked with ‘Bits and Pieces’ and other tours to Seeley; the story goes on. I have always loved the backside of theatre since I was a small girl taking ballet lessons. Mom wanted me to be the star and I wanted to help sew costumes. One day we just answered a call to volunteer, I think, and here we are. (A sidebar is that Louise Schouw, our Danish daughter, has gone on to have one of the largest theatre companies in Denmark).
Do you have a favorite project or show that you’ve helped build?
No favorite. Like kids, they are all different and have their successes and challenges.
Would you ever want to be IN a show at MCT?
NO NEVER NO WAY TO BE IN A SHOW.
Editor’s note: Sounds like they’re considering it?
