Next Step Prep is a Performing Arts Boarding School located at the Missoula Children’s Theatre headquarters in Missoula, Montana. We are now enrolling for the Summer 2010 session which will run from June 28 to August 6, 2010. Students from around the country and around the world are invited to apply.
Next Step Prep currently offers a 6-week course of intense studies in Musical Theatre Performance. Through daily instruction in Dance, Music and Acting, students can earn credit toward High School graduation while honing their skills as triple threat performers. Combining a focused curriculum of classroom instruction, private voice lessons, and specialty workshops taught by professionals from the worlds of Theatre, Television and Dance—the Next Step Prep Summer Program is designed to give students the skills needed to prepare themselves for post secondary studies in the Performing Arts.

Housing and Meals Students for the Next Step Prep 2010 Summer session will be provided housing in an exclusive section of the dormitories on the University of Montana campus.Next Step Prep students will be housed in double occupancy rooms in a section of dorms reserved exclusively for our use.Dorm students will be supervised by Next Step Prep resident advisors. Those students with relatives or family friends in Missoula are welcome to make their own living arrangements for the 6 week summer session.All students will be provided lunch each day, Monday through Friday.In addition, dorm students will be provided with all morning, evening and weekend meals—through the University Food Services—as part of their housing arrangement.
Tuition and Fees Tuition for the 6 week summer session is $6,400—which includes all classroom fees, required texts, private voice instruction, and weekly lunches.
Housing and Meals are an additional $1,350 for the session. This includes housing from Sunday June 27 through Friday night August 6, 2010, as well as all breakfast, dinner and weekend meal service.
Tuition Credits Early Application Credit—All students applying for admission by Jan. 15, 2010 will qualify for a $1000 tuition credit to be applied to their summer tuition.
Bring a Friend—Students may earn an additional $250 credit for each new student they recruit who applies and is accepted to the Summer 2010 session - up to 4 new students for a total tuition credit of $1,000.
In addition, all students qualifying for Tuition Credits will still be eligible to apply for financial aid.
Financial Aid For the 2009 Summer Session the average financial aid package offered by Next Step Prep reduced family contributions by over 50%.
All Next Step Prep students are eligible to apply for financial aid. Financial aid is offered based on several criteria, including student need, ability, and current access to performing arts training. Financial need is determined by an independent organization, School and Student Services, which, in addition to financial assessment, can also help to match students with further scholarship opportunities.
The 2009 Inaugural Summer Session was a resounding success!Read the blog! Twenty-six students completed acting, singing and dancing classes on August 7, 2009 and received two full-year fine arts credits to be transferred on to their local High School transcripts.
Certified teachers in each area maintained their own syllabi and coordinated the classes augmented by guest artists—recognized professionals from the worlds of theatre, film, music, dance and even television. Guest Artists included: Bill Bowers (Under a Montana Moon, Scarlet Pimpernel and The Lion King on Broadway), Alexander Gemignani (Les Miserables and Sweeney Todd on Broadway) and Alan Campbell (Sunset Boulevard Tony Award winner) among others. In addition, Erin Ortmann (Performer and Director/Instructor at NYU-Tisch) and Jason Robert Brown (Broadway composer: The Last 5 Years, Parade, Songs for A New World, 13).
