After a 32-year absence, Don Collins is returning to the staff of Missoula Children’s Theater in the position of Senior Development Officer. Don, with Jim Caron, co-founded MCT in 1971 and laid the groundwork for what the organization has become today. As the Senior Development Officer, Don will be charged with developing and building a long-term funding base for the organization.
Following the first three seasons and some ten original shows co-written with Caron, Don moved to Seattle to begin a singing career in 1973. It was a move that benefited all parties, as Don quickly landed with Seattle Opera and MCT was able to streamline and refine the organizational structure under Caron’s leadership.
Over the past 30 years Don has continued to perform professionally. He has performed in opera houses and theaters across the US and Canada with the likes of Anna Moffo, Joan Sutherland, Richard Tucker, Sherill Milnes, Jerome Hines, Georgio Tozzi, and Howard Keel. December 2004 found Don performing in a new Broadway-bound musical Robin Hood-the legend continues, written by the team of Martin Charnen (Annie) and Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers and Hairspray).
Don has balanced life as a professional performer, a businessman and an entrepreneur in Seattle over the past 25 years where he worked as an award winning, respected and knowledgeable sales and manufacture’s representative in the office interiors industry. Most recently Don was a partner in a major manufacturer’s representatives firm in Seattle. He is also the author of a cookbook, Cookbook of the Year.
Both Collins and Caron were honored in 2004 by the University of Montana School of Fine Arts in the annual Odyssey of the Stars event for their outstanding achievement in founding MCT.
