Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell boasts a string of well-loved songs—led by the international hit, “Day by Day.” This groundbreaking show draws from various theatrical traditions such as clowning, acrobatics, and vaudeville. Godspell is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time, but more than that, it is a joyous event that will have you humming the tunes all the way home.

How it rates: Popular music and the story of Jesus. Similar to Jesus Christ Superstar, but told in a gentle way with a message of tolerance.

This iconic classic of the American musical theatre, West Side Story is a timeless version of the world’s greatest love story. Transporting Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Leonard Bernstein teamed up with newcomer Stephen Sondheim for a Broadway hit. Set in early 1960s New York City, two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence, and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and significant musical dramas of our time.

How it rates: Contains romance with conflicts and violence and tension of street life. Probably not for the youngest of family members.
