Facilities Coordinator
After receiving a B.S. Degree in Drama from Northern Michigan University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Western Illinois University, Don started working for the Missoula Children’s Theatre as a tour actor/director from 1981–1984. He then spent two years as an artist-in-residence in Riverton, Wyoming, before returning to the MCT home staff, where he eventually became Artistic Director of the International Touring Project. In the interim, he has directed 40 shows for the MCT Community Theatre. His other accomplishments at MCT include: artistic director for the Issues and Awareness Tour (1990-97); artistic director for Summer Theatre (1985-87); director of the MCT Academy, a college preparatory program in the performing arts (1989-90); artistic director for Performing Arts Camp (1985-1986, 1997); served as primary lighting and scenic designer for 40 productions; and played various roles (Pseudolus, Sancho, Salieri, Felix Ungar, etc.) In Montana, he has served as guest director for the Montana Players, Bigfork Summer Playhouse, Hamilton Players, Port Polson Players, and Charlie Russell’s
Montana at the Fort Missoula Amphitheatre; Summer Music Theater in Macomb, Illinois; Western Illinois University: and the Pistarckle Theatre in St. Thomas, USVI. In 2001-2002, he served as producer/director/writer/second banana of
Swingin’ on a Star and
Starlight Serenade (“live” big-band radio shows) at the Missoula Elks Lodge. He is a published playwright and Montana Arts Council Fellowship recipient, and is very active in VSA Arts Montana, teaching mime to people with disabilities, and presenting employee development retreats for Providence Services. In his spare time, he works as a freelance director and writer. He is an old (but slow!) hockey player, an amazingly inconsistent golfer, and a shortstop to be reckoned with. Don and his wife Laura are the proud parents of their daughter, Faith. After a six-year hiatus from MCT (being a full-time Dad), Don is happy to be back.
